Lovesick Wanderings

October 4, 2009

Here are a few miscellaneous things going on in the
Lovesick Clothing world –

In line with the whole historical American clothing is cool thing,
check out these boots (sorry I’d paste the image, but the websites requests that I don’t).

LEVI’S XX501 Vintage Denim

In the land of denim, selvedge reigns supreme.  In the land of selvedge, red selvage is on the top.  This is all thanks to Levi’s. Check this little excerpt from the history of the Levi’s 501.
http://www.levistrauss.com/Downloads/history_of_levis_501_jeans.pdf

1915 The overalls win a “Highest Award” at the Panama-
Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.

LS&CO. begins to buy denim from Cone Mills in Greensboro, North Carolina.

c1927 Cone Mills develops the 10 oz. red selvage denim exclusively for the 501® jeans. The denim is woven in 29” wide looms.

You know all those stories about pants lasting longer and old clothing never falling apart or anything? The selvedge denim is why. Some of you may be familiar with our love affair with Nudie Jeans, and their lasting never wash awesomeness.  Well thanks to Levi’s we don’t have to go to European companies for our jeans.  The American staple has risen the denim bar again and begun to remake some classic true to era XX501 jeans. Over the years the 501 cut has changed.  The Levi’s vintage line has 501 cuts that date back to different years. (1933, 1915, 1954 to name some)  These are all made with that selvedge denim that keeps everything together for eternity. If you’d like to look at some, check the link.

LIVING DEAD + New News

April 15, 2009

black

As is typical with Lovesick Clothing, you don’t hear a whole lot about us for a while and then BAM; we’re back in your face with new news (I might catchphrase that), random meanderings and a lot to talk about. Granted, this sort of thing is somewhat needed as we actually need to conceptualize our ideas (the fun exciting part) and produce those ideas (the lengthy part). Currently, Lovesick Clothing is in production with our new line. The stage in the game where we can finally make our ideas reality. We’ve been doing quite a bit of experimenting lately (as you’ve no doubt seen in our previous posts) and we’re now harnessing everything into a tight nit line. I’m happy to announce to you today the unveiling of our brand new line:

dead

We are 100% and whole heartily stoked for this new line. June 2009 is the set release date… Tell your friends Lovesick is back, in black.

Lovesick Clothing is now located on 18th St. in the Crossroads of Kansas City (Art District). While although this will just be our office and production facility we still will be putting on events at our location so everyone can check it out. Our landlords, who actually share the space with us (www.bluebouquet.com) are the coolest people ever and we couldn’t be happier working alongside them. If you ever have any need of event decoration (I’m not limiting it to flowers because they simply do just about anything your mind can think up) give them a call- best in K.C. 816-333-3571

village

Recently Lovesick Clothing attended The Village‘s first event ‘Village presents CARGO‘. It was a fun event and we were able to set up a booth and sell our product and a few key members within our company were actually in the runway show (although Lovesick was not showcased as a designer we most likely will be collaborating on the next event with our new line). Overall it was successful at shedding light on the issue of Human Trafficking that is currently a reality within our present day. Who said you can’t have a little bit of ridiculously-out-there-fun once and a while?!?

Lovesick Clothing is now on sale within Crown Center downtown in a shop called Gifted Hands. Please check it out if you ever get a chance. It is a great opportunity to get to see our clothing up close if ordering over the web is not your fancy. We’re excited with the relationship we are building with them. Gifted Hands help women in abuse (please read their message to get the whole story).

Tie Dye?

February 27, 2009

Lovesick Clothing is hard at work with our new line scheduled to drop this summer (Fall/Winter 2009). Consequently we have been dabbling in a new world of clothing modifications (sewing, dying, etc.).  We played with (as the title suggests) tie-dye. We approached this a little differently, though. We actually clamped the shirts after folding them, instead of the traditional rubber band twist method.  Personally, I was hoping for this gradual fading from one color to another awesomeness effect.  More akin to a two-tone gradation that you would get from a Photoshop tool on the computer.  Unfortunately, I got more of a tie dye striped look. It’s extremely hard to make tie dye into something it’s not.  It seems to cling to its psychedelic coloring transitions like AC~DC held onto it’s success.

Maybe we should all take a life lesson from this tie dye character.  Even if you suck, if you cling to what you are with an unrelenting passion maybe things will be awesome (and colorful).
